It was about 6 pm on a Thursday and even though we were assured a dry evening, it had not given up on pouring down rain! Ray and me were relaxing there talking over the rugby results, waiting around for the next job to come in. Before long we got the call from a woman on a business expedition who had pulled into the Tesco filling station in Breinton Common and filled petrol in a diesel cream BMW 6 Series hire car by mistake. The poor thing was rather agitated it seemed, stating "I can not believe that I've messed up the vehicle! I am so familiar with filling up my petrol vehicle that I completely forgot I was operating a diesel!" I told her to calm down and not to worry, plus that these things often happen. She had managed to maneuver the vehicle to a secure position and, because it was just a short distance from the office, we were able to arrive at her without delay. The incorrect fuel was removed so she was able to once again go back to the Travelodge she was staying at. Despite the fact that we got really drenched, it was all worth it to see her drive off relaxed and less anxious. One more job in Herefordshire done well in my mind!

The 3 things you HAVE TO know about petrol in diesel!

AdBlue In Your Diesel

In Herefordshire we have encountered an increasing number of examples of AdBlue contamination whereby an individual has put AdBlue into their diesel fuel tank. This is to a certain extent a result of people not being totally sure the right way to work with it (pay attention: it's in truth not a fuel additive), and in part because the filler necks for diesel and AdBlue are often right adjacent to each other on the car.

Well, what exactly is the situation with putting AdBlue in your diesel vehicle?

Seeing as the product is predominantly ionised water, it is like putting water in your tank. Diesel and water really don't blend in any way and trying to run a diesel car on water will never work. Additionally, the urea is very corrosive to your fuel system lines and seals and is susceptible to crystalising, blocking injectors and filters. If perhaps you poured AdBlue into your fuel tank get it out as soon as possible. And absolutely never start the car - not even to move it to a parking area. Assuming you have started the car you would in all likelihood need to have the full fuel system cleaned and fuel filters replaced.

In case you end up in this situation don’t fret or panic! Call us, the UK’s Number one fuel contamination business. Our technicians possess the technical knowledge and experience to get you back on the road rapidly and efficiently, no mess, no fuss.

Marine Fuel Drains

In the event that you have the wrong fuel, or perhaps contaminated fuel (most commonly water contaminated or degraded fuel) in a boat we can help you drain it. As long as the boat is either dry-docked, or moored close enough to a vehicle parking spot we are able to access the tanks and remove the contaminated fuel. We've completed many fuel drains at docks and boatyards across the country.

Wrong Fuel in Car in HR2 Postcode - Breinton Common Misfueling

What a fantastic night's uninterrupted sleep! It was 7:00 on a gloomy Sunday and I was off to help an old lovely lady after she had put petrol in her diesel daughter's Isuzu i-350 in Breinton Common. She informed us that she had driven away from the petrol station and pulled up in a backwater lane along the way to see her godchildren. I popped the location straight into the Satnav and was with her in less than 60 minutes. I arrived at the location and drained the contaminated fuel out of the vehicle. While I was doing the work she explained, "I am getting quite absent-minded in my senior years and did not remember about the vehicle using diesel because I had only just bought it a couple of days ago because my former car, which I had for over 25 years, inevitably died on me". I finished the job and she gifted me a peppermint and thanked me for my work. What a precious Herefordshire woman!

Consequently, if you've filled your petrol vehicle with diesel, or put petrol in your diesel motor vehicle just about anywhere in Herefordshire, get in touch with us right away. Our competent mechanics are all set for you.

Wrong Fuel in Car London - Petrol in Diesel Car Breinton Common

We completed a wrong fuel removal job on the drive of a lovely residence in Breinton Common not so long ago. "I put unleaded in my diesel car and was able to nearly get home when my car quit." Our specialist went out, despite the fact that it was rather late at night, and did a thorough fuel drain and purge on the mum's Mercedes S-Class to everyone's satisfaction.

This was an unsociable time to be awake. It was about 3:30 in the morning and almost noone was about. It was pretty quiet until now, and Mark and I were relaxing reading a couple of old articles. This was an uncommon quiet moment in Herefordshire. It was indeed so quiet that the instant the telephone rang it made me start! The customer on the other end explained: "I ended my overnight shift and incredibly poured the wrong fuel in my mint green Mazda626". We instructed him to inform us where exactly the car was located and we headed out, arriving in Breinton Common no more than an hour later. The incorrect fuel was cleared from the engine and he said thanks a lot for coming so promptly. As we were coming back home we spotted two young women at the side of the highway who seemed to have a flat. As a result we pulled over to change it, much to their delight.

How to find out if I put the wrong fuel in my car?

If you’ve just filled up at a petrol station and the cars starts to act a bit strange you might start to wonder if you accidentally put the wrong fuel in it.

Well, there are a few things to can check that will be able to tell you:

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded. If you don’t have the receipt, you can often return to the petrol station where you filled up and give them the date and time (and pump) where you refueled and they will often be able to give you a VAT receipt.
  3. Smell it. Diesel and petrol have very distinctly different smells. Anyone familiar with the motor industry should be able to help you with this. Or you could even get another car to park alongside and smell the fuel caps of both, comparing them to determine what the fuel type is.
  4. Call us to come out and assess the car. In the majority of cases we will be able to tell if the car has been misfueled before beginning work on it. If we discover that the vehicle does not need a fuel drain, you will only be charged a call-out fee.
